Safe to Spend

Your balance isn’t your spending money.

It still counts rent you haven’t paid, bills already due and money you meant to save. Follow the same ₹80,000 all the way through.

  1. What your bank shows

    Your balance says ₹80,000.

One number for everything in the account — including money that already belongs to somebody else.

  2. Already spoken for

    You set ₹15,000 aside.

For rent, an emergency fund, a trip goal. It never leaves your bank — it just stops being counted as spendable, so you don’t spend it twice.

  3. Already committed

    ₹12,000 of bills are due.

The card statement, an EMI, electricity. Dated, known, and leaving within the month.

  4. The number that matters

    ₹53,000 is actually yours.

That is Safe to Spend — what is left once everything already promised is taken out. It is the figure your bank will never show you.

  5. What is coming

    Salary lands: ₹85,000.

Filed under the month you earned it, not the day the transfer cleared.

  6. And what goes out

    Another ₹30,000 is committed.

Bills, card dues, your SIPs, and the day-to-day spending you typically do — estimated from your own median month, never an average.

  7. Where you land

    ₹1,08,000, projected.

Every line labelled actual, expected or estimated — so you know which parts are certain and which are an estimate.

Why XIRR, not a plain percentage?

10% over three months and 10% over three years are not the same. XIRR is your real yearly rate, counted from the day each rupee went in — shown once a holding is 30 days old, because a few days’ move annualised means nothing.

Questions

Worth knowing

How is Safe to Spend worked out?

Your bank and cash balance, minus the bills, EMIs, card dues and SIPs due in the next 30 days, minus what you’ve set aside — reserves and goal money. Every part is listed on the screen.

Can I bring in the investments I already have?

Yes. Import a CAMS/KFintech CAS PDF for mutual funds (with every SIP instalment), a Groww or Zerodha holdings sheet for funds and shares, or your Binance history for crypto. The file is read on your phone and never uploaded; importing again updates, never duplicates.

Do I have to connect my bank?

No, and you can’t — Spendly never asks for net-banking details and can’t move money. Reading your bank’s alert emails (Gmail, read-only) is an invite-only beta; everything else works without it.

Where does my goal money go?

Nowhere, unless you choose. It stays in your bank marked for the goal, so your balance still matches the bank. You can also move it to another account or link an investment.

Is it really free?

Yes — free while we build it. No card, and no trial that runs out.

Is there an Android or iOS app?

An Android app is in testing, not yet on Google Play, and there is no iOS app. Spendly runs in any mobile browser and installs to your home screen.

Where do prices and news come from?

Stocks from Yahoo Finance, fund NAVs from MFAPI, crypto from CoinGecko, and gold at an approximate Indian rate (IBJA-matched, before GST and making charges). The daily briefing is written from Google Search results, and a story without real sources is dropped.

See all your money — and what’s really yours to spend.
